Rob was an outstanding righthanded pitcher for the Fairview Heights Redbirds in the Mon-Clair League from 20116 to 2019. When he wasn’t pitching, he played shortstop. Blumberg was a key member of Redbird teams that won three Mon-Clair League playoff championships, four division titles, and one Valmeyer tournament title. He was Mon-Clair League MVP in 2009 and 2012 and was the league’s batting champion in 2008. Over his career, Blumberg hit .378 with over 300 hits and a .450 on-base percentage. As a pitcher, he had a record of 58-29, an ERA of 2.66 in 614 innings pitched, with 612 strikeouts and 52 complete games. Blumberg led the league in strikeouts every year from 2010-2014. In 2022, he was inducted into the Mon-Clair League Baseball Hall of Fame. A graduate of Freeburg High School, Blumberg went on to pitch for Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington from 2001 to 2004, losing only three games during that span. He helped IWU to the Division 3 College World Series in 2001. In 2006, Blumberg pitched for the Gateway Grizzlies in the Frontier League, where his manager was former Cardinal pitcher Danny Cox.
