He was a left-handed pitcher and first baseman who played for the University of Missouri at Columbia from 1982 to 1985. He was co-captain of the 1985 team that was ranked eleventh in the nation. That year, he hit thirteen home runs to set a new single season record at Mizzou. He had 56 RBIs. In 1982, he hit a three-run homer the first time he came to bat for Mizzou.
In 1981, Bollinger was captain of the Lindbergh High School team that finished second at the Missouri State Tournament. That year, he was named to the All-Conference and All-Metro teams. He had a batting average of .389. In 1980, he was selected to the All-Conference team, and he received honorable mention on the All-Metro team. That year, he hit three home runs in a game plus a double while playing for Lindbergh. In 2010, Bollinger was inducted into the Lindbergh High School Sports Hall of Fame.
In 1980, Bollinger guided the Crestwood American Legion team to a fifth-place finish at the American Legion World Series in Ely, Minnesota. In 1981, he was named the St. Louis District 10 American Legion Player of the Year. He was a runner-up for the “Best in Decade” team.
In the 1980s, Bollinger pitched and played first base in the St. Louis Metro Collegiate League. He was with the St. Louis Browns and the West County Royals. He played for Russell Sports in the National Amateur Baseball Federation. Bollinger was a power hitter with a high batting average. He was also a good defensive first baseman.
Bollinger has coached amateur baseball teams in the St. Louis area for the past twenty years, primarily in Ellisville and Chesterfield.
