"A.G." was a defensive star shortstop, who also played second base and the outfield. A consistent .350 hitter whose career spanned 28 years, he batted and threw from the right side. A.G began playing in the CYC League, moved on to four years of high school ball at Mercy, one year in the Muny and another year in the strong U.City League. He played two years of American Legion ball with the Oliver 3uy Vasser Post. Beckmann began a long career in the St. Louis County League in 1953, with Maryland Heights for one year, eight years with Vigus, and another 13 years with Giesler-Jorgen. "A.G." was a mainstay on 14 Championship clubs as well as the 1969 Missouri State Champs, Giesler-Jorgen . He coached youth teams for a couple of years along with still another year in the Metro Collegian League.
