A powerful right-handed pitcher, Blank was drafted in the 18th round of the amateur baseball draft by the Houston Astros in 1975. That year, he pitched for the Astros rookie farm club in Covington, Virginia in the Appalachian League.

He was the all-time ERA leader at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock where he played in 1974 and 1975.

Blank pitched for Southern Illinois University at Carbondale from 1971 to 1974. He pitched for Columbia High School from 1968 to 1971. During that same time, he played American Legion ball for Dupo and Cahokia.

From 1969 to 1982, Blank pitched in the Mon-Clair League for Columbia and Valmeyer. He played on some outstanding Valmeyer Laker teams managed by Dennis Pieper.

Blank has been an administrator of the Mon-Clair League for the past 35 years, helping to sustain and support league operations. He is currently the Secretary-Treasurer of the Mon-Clair League, a job he has held since 1988. He is a member of the committee that manages the Valmeyer Fourth of July Tournament. tournament.

In 1998, Blank was inducted into the Mon-Clair Baseball League Hall of Fame.
