A switch-hitting outfielder, pitcher, and shortstop, Bone played for the league champion New York Paintsville Yankees and the Oneonta Yankees after playing for Florida International University, where he set two school records. He played for Waldorf Junior College and was inducted into the Waldorf College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2009. Bone, who played for numerous leagues and teams, was the head baseball coach at Webster University from 1991-93. From 1992-2011, he was the manager of the Festus American Legion Post 253 team.

During that time, he compiled a record of 649 wins and only 197 losses. He won 17 District Championships, eight Missouri Eastern Zone Championships, five Missouri State Championships and one Central Plains Regional Championship. Festus won three consecutive Missouri State Championships and, in 2009, played in the American Legion World Series, finishing fifth in the nation. Bone has received seven American Legion Distinguished Service Awards, among other honors.
