He was a right-handed pitcher for St. Louis University from 1984 to 1987. At St. Louis University, Boxdorfer ranks third all-time in career complete games with twenty. He started 38 games for SLU which ranks in the Top 15. He pitched 249.1 innings which is eleventh on the all- time list. His eight complete games in 1987 ranks third all-time. He had 153 career strikeouts at SLU which ranks eighteenth. He was the team leader at SLU where he was part of the rebuilding process. St. Louis University played against some of the top teams in the nation. In a game with Oklahoma State, Boxdorfer struck out future Major Leaguer Pete Incaviglia who had just set the all-time collegiate home run record. Boxdorfer picked Craig Counsell off twice at first base in a game against Notre Dame.
He was a two-sport letterman at SLU. In addition to his accomplishments on the baseball field, he also participated as a member of the SLU Rifle Team.
Boxdorfer pitched for St. Mary’s High School before attending St. Louis University. He pitched for the Sotolar Pointers in the CYC Senior Major League in 1985 and then again in 1988.
He played in the St. Louis Metro Collegiate League for Centerre Bank in 1986 and Interco in 1987. He was selected to the Metro Collegiate all-star team both years. Boxdorfer coached CYC baseball teams at St. Roch School for seventeen years.
