Kevin Austin
Hall of Fame Player Class of 2019
Kevin was a right-handed outfielder for Harris-Stowe College from 1976 to 1979. He was known for his hitting and speed. In 1976, he had a .300 batting average, and was ranked 10th in the nation in stolen bases. That year, Harris-Stowe was ranked as the seventh best team in the nation. Austin led his Harris-Stowe team in stolen bases in 1976 and 1977. He averaged more than one stolen base per game during his career at Harris-Stowe. He was an excellent outfield with good defensive skills.
From 1977 to 1985, Austin played outfield for Harris-Stowe in the Tandy League, where he batted above .350 during his nine-years there. He batted over .400 in three seasons. He hit .407 in 1978, .421 in 1981 and .401 in 1982. Kevin was frequently the lead-off hitter and stolen base leader. He as team captain between 1978 and 1984, and team MVP in 1978, 1981 and 1982. He was selected to nine consecutive Tandy League all-star teams. Austin was the head baseball coach at Normandy High School for 11 years, reaching the District Finals five times. Austin was also a summer league coach for the Reving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program.
