Howard (Hank) Bierman

Bierman was a strong hitting catcher who played four professional seasons with the St. Louis Browns and New York Giants beginning in 1951. In 1951, he played for the Appleton Papermakers in the Browns farm system. The following season, he was with the Oshkosh Giants, a farm club of the Giants. He also played minor league ball for the Mount Vernon Kings and Jackson Generals. In 1955, he played minor league ball in Texas for Plainville, Abilene and Midland.

Bierman played military service baseball at Fort. Leonard Wood, leading the league in hitting in 1953.

He starred for Soldan High School in the late 1940s and played American Legion ball in St. Louis from 1946-51. He was scouted by the New York Yankees and offered a tryout with the team. Bierman began his baseball career in the Khoury League in 1945.

In 1952, Bierman caught batting practice for the St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Browns. He has coached and umpired baseball in California, where he has lived for more than 40 years.
