The Greater St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame recently made two donations this summer, distributing $3,000 in total. One contribution benefited the Mathews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club, and the other was given to the St. Louis Metro Collegiate Baseball League.
Mathews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club
The Greater STL Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame has made a $1,500 donation to the Mathews-Dickey Boys and Girls Club to support their efforts to help families impacted by the recent tornado that struck the city of St. Louis. The donation helps to support the great work the Boys and Girls Club in providing for families in the St. Louis area since the devastation. Providing essential supplies and support for families in need has been a hallmark of the club for many years. Founded in 1960 by St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Famers Martin Luther Mathews and Hubert "Dickey" Ballentine. Originally established to provide athletic and educational opportunities for local youth, the club has grown significantly and currently serves numerous young people in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. The club has a rich history of fostering both athletic and academic success, using baseball as a gateway to broader educational and personal development programs.
St. Louis Metro Collegiate Baseball League
The Greater STL Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame has made a $1,500 donation to the St. Louis Metro Collegiate Baseball League to assist in league expenses for this season and beyond. The league was honored with the J. Kim Tucci Legacy Award at the St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame Awards Banquet on April 24, 2025 for their tireless efforts to support collegiate level summer baseball in the St. Louis area. The league provides a platform for aspiring collegiate baseball players, typically ages 19-22, to hone their skills and compete at a high level. The league emphasizes player development and preparation for potential professional opportunities, with a reported 90% of its players attending college on athletic or academic scholarships. The Hall of Fame's $1,500 donation will help support the league's operations, which include using wooden bats exclusively to simulate a professional playing environment and sending a team to the National Amateur Baseball Federation (NABF) post-season play each year. Additionally, the league conducts baseball clinics year-round for coaches and players of all ages up to 22. Several players who have competed in the Metro Collegiate League have gone on to be inducted into the Greater St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.
