William F. Panos Sr.

William F. Panos Sr.
Hall of Fame Umpire Class of 1985

Bill Panos was another of the top baseball players turned out by Beaumont High School. In 1933, he was chosen to the All-City and Al-State team as a shortstop.

Bill played for the DAV team at Fairgrounds Park and Joe Garavelli’s at Sherman Park. After World War II, Panos played for Feld Chevrolet and Barford Chevrolet in the powerful University City League.

His abilities as a player were of Greater St. Louis Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame quality, but his service to the game spanned over 20 years as an elite umpire. Bill Panos was a member of the Greater St. Louis Umpire’s Association. He worked college, high school, American Legion, and Semi Pro games during his career.
