A power-hitting first baseman and All-Big Ten selection at the University of Wisconsin, Cepicky was drafted by and signed with the Chicago White Sox in 1989. He played six pro seasons there, reaching the AAA level with the Nashville Sounds in 1993. He played for Terry Francona with Chicago’s AA team the Birmingham Barons. He played for the South Bend, Indiana, White Sox in 1990, where he won the Midwest League batting title. The following season, Scott was named Florida State League MVP with the Sarasota White Sox. He wrapped up his minor league career with the Class AA Nashville Express, a farm team of the Minnesota Twins. In 1992, Cepicky was ranked as a top prospect by Baseball America Magazine.
In 1992 and 1993, he played for Francona in the Venezuelan Winter League and was named MVP after leading the league in home runs and RBIs in 1992.
Cepicky was a standout baseball player at Vianney High School in the early 1980s. In 1984, he won the American Legion batting title and was named MVP. In the late 1980s, he continued his stellar play at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he was the top hitter. He earned All-Big Ten honors in 1988 and 1989 and also played for the Wisconsin football team.
Cepicky played Mon-Clair League baseball for the Waterloo Buds and he also toiled for the St. Louis Yankees. In 2000, he coached in a college summer league in Atlanta, Georgia.
