A hard-hitting catcher, Mundy was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in 1988 after graduating from Pattonville High School. He played four seasons in the Cubs’ minor league teams in Geneva, New York in the New York-Pennsylvania League; and the Peoria Chiefs in the Midwest League. At Geneva, led the league in throwing out baserunners in 1989.
At Pattonville, Mundy was a star from 1986-88, leading the Pirates to the Missouri State Championship in 1986, and a fourth-place finish at State in 1987. A two-time Suburban North selection, his career batting average at Pattonville was .350. In the late 1980s, Mundy was a catcher for the St. Charles-based EECU team in the Metro Collegiate League. In 1993, he caught for the Brighton Stars in the Mon-Clair League and was named Rookie of the Year and a league all-star.
Mundy played semi-pro ball for O’B Clark’s from 1994 to 2000, In 1996, he was the leading hitter at the NBC tournament in Wichita and made the tournament all-star team. He also played semi-pro baseball for the Cape Girardeau Caphas in 1997.
In 2014, Mundy was inducted into the National Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in Evansville, Indiana.
Mundy also was a catcher and pitcher for the St. Louis Union Printers from 2000 to 2008 and was the leading hitter at the Printers national tournaments in 2002 and 2006. The Printers won the national tournament in 2003. In 2008, Mundy was inducted into the Union Printers International Baseball League Hall of Fame.
From 2009-16, Mundy played for the St. Louis Knights in the Men’s Senior Baseball League. He ten joined the St. Louis Longhorns in the MSBL. He has also coached little league baseball in the St. Louis area for many years.
