Roy was a right-handed first baseman who signed with the Minnesota Twins in 1985, and played for their farm team in Elizabethton, Tennessee.

He signed with the Twins after playing for Western Kentucky University in the Sun Belt Conference. He was named to the All-Conference team in 1984-85 and is ranked in the Top 10 for home runs in a single season at Western Kentucky.

Roy was a Junior College All-American in 1983 at Belleville Area College. He also played for McKendree College in 1981-82.

He played for Waterloo High School from 1978-81 and was on the Freeburg American Legion team in 1979, and the Waterloo American Legion team in 1980 and 1981.

From 1980 to 1993, Mike was a standout first baseman for the Waterloo Buds under Coach Vern Moehrs. Roy helped the Buds win numerous championships and was selected to multiple Mon-Clair League all-star teams.

In 1984, Roy played in the Virginia Valley League for the Staunton Braves.

From 2001 to 2015, Roy coached the Chesterfield Mudcats to 462 victories and 158 losses. His team won several tournaments and a Missouri state championship.
