A solid hitting infielder, Lalumondiere was invited to try out with the St. Louis Cardinals when he was 17. He played second base for Southwest High School in the early 1960s, helping the team win the Public High League championship with a three-run homer in the 1962 title game. In 1964, Larry was named to the All-Metro second team. He was a very good fielder and only made five errors during his four seasons at Southwest High. He also played football and basketball at Southwest.

Lalumondiere was a second baseman for Gardenville-Affton Post 300 and he helped the team win the American Legion city title in 1964 and advance to the Missouri Eastern Zone playoffs, where he was named runner-up MVP in the tournament. He was captain and also the player-manager of his team. He was selected to the American Legion All-Metro second team. He only made six errors during his four years with Gardenville-Affton.

He received a baseball scholarship to Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, where he set the school double play record as a freshman second baseman. He led Sul Ross in home runs and RBI for two years. As a freshman, he stole 40 bases in 42 attempts and consistently hit well over .300 while continuing to play stellar defense.

In the late 1960s, Lalumondiere was an infielder for Southwest Missouri State University. From 1966-70, Larry played second base for L&P Sales in the Heine Meine semi-pro league. In the 1980s and 1990s he was the hitting coach for the Fenton Post 400 American Legion baseball team. He coached youth baseball teams in the St. Louis for eight years.
