Ken Werne was an excellent pitcher in the Muny Leagues from 1929 through 1936. He pitched on three pennant-winners and two second-place clubs and was selected as one of the two best players in the Industrial League by the Cardinals in 1934. When his playing days were over, Werne became an umpire in the Muny Leagues and was active for three decades. He also worked with and coached youngsters during his tenure as an umpire.
