Meeks was a player whose career started in 1937 as a second baseman in the Tandy League. He was a defensive standout and a consistent .300 hitter for 27 years, playing on three Championship teams in the Tandy League. In 1941, Gibbie hit .390 and in 1946 he hit .340. Meeks is active in amateur baseball and draws heavily on his experiences in the Tandy League as well as the Negro National League to serve in the administration of the Tandy League, of which he is the Vice President. In 1949, he was the manager of the West All-Stars at Sportsman’s Park. In 1969, his right leg was amputated but he still stayed in the Tandy League and served as coach, manager, and official for 44 years.
