Wheatley, an outfielder-first baseman, was another of Ray Elliott's Beaumont products who played professionally, putting in four seasons in the Yankee organization. In 1956, batting .549 for Ballwin, he had a six for six day in which he totaled 20 bases and drove in 10 runs - four homers, a triple and a single.
