Darrin has been the assistant coach at Francis Howell High School for the last two decades. Four of his teams won the Missouri State championship in 2003, 2011, 2013 and 2016. Francis Howell finished second at the Missouri State tournament in 2008 and 2014.
Cissell was also an assistant coach for one year at Francis Howell North and one year at Francis Howell Central.
He attended Francis Howell High School, where he was the starting shortstop for three years on the Vikings’ team which made two Final Four appearances. In 1991, Francis Howell finished second at the Missouri state tournament. In 1993, the Vikings finished third. He was named All-Conference in 1991, 1992 and 1993. He was a good switch-hitter who was known for his speed on the basepaths. He was also an outstanding football player at Francis Howell.
In 2003, Cissell was one of the first inductees into the Francis Howell Baseball Hall of Fame. During his college years, he was a standout infielder for Meramec Community College in the 1994 and 1995 seasons, leading his teams to the JUCO World Series twice. Meramec finished third in the JUCO tournament in 1995. He was named to the All-Regional team twice.
Cissell played second base in the St. Louis Metro Collegiate League in 1994 and 1995. In 1994, Darin was on the Educational Employees Credit Union team. In ’95, he starred for Denny’s, helping his team reach the National Baseball Federation World Series.
He played center field in 1997 for St. Louis University. He was drafted in the June 1997 Major League Baseball Draft and signed by the San Francisco Giants but was unable to play due to injury.
He coached baseball at Missouri Baptist University for several years and has conducted baseball clinics in the St. Louis area since 1998.
