Chuck Curry

A 1979 draft pick of the San Francisco Giants, Curry played first base for their farm team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. From 1975 to 1979, Curry was a catcher and first baseman on scholarship for Southern Illinois University – Carbondale. Chuck played first base on the Salukis’ 1977 team that finished third in the College World Series in Omaha. That season, he hit .303 and was named to the Missouri Valley All-Conference team.

Curry was an outfielder and pitcher for Ritenour High School from 1972-75. That final season at Ritenour, he batted .369 with 18 RBIs and 10 stolen bases. In addition, he posted a 9-1 record as the ace of the Huskie’s pitching staff. Those numbers earned him a selection to the Missouri All-State High School team and the Suburban North All-Conference team, as well as Post-Dispatch All-Metro honors.

Curry was also a standout amateur player for the Bloomingdale Bobcats in the Central Illinois Collegiate League. In 1982-83, Curry played for Trenton in Clinton County, Illinois. He won the Triple Crown in 1982 and was named Clinton County Player of the Year.

For many years, Curry served as baseball coach for Thoman-Boothe American Legion Post 338.
