"Lefty" George was synonymous with the very best in amateur baseball in the early 1930s when St. Louis featured the best in the nation in amateur baseball. At 17, he was pitching in the strong Three-III League. He came home and pitched for Ben Millers in the Trolley League, as well as the Tower Grove Bank of the Muny Leagues, from 1929-1932. In 1933 and 1934, "Lefty" pitched two different clubs to City Championships. He pitched professionally from 1935 through 1942 with the Birmingham Barons, the Shreveport Sports, the Williamsport Grays and the Hartford Bees. After baseball, George worked as a bottler at Anheuser-Busch, Cos., Inc. for over 30 years.
