Known as a versatile left-handed hurler, Ross Detwiler pitched in 14 big league seasons before making his final appearance in 2022. The Washington Nationals made him their first pick (sixth overall) in the 2007 June MLB Draft. He pitched in just nine minor league games before making his MLB debut in September of 2007. He pitched his first seven seasons in the Washington Nationals organization.
He was known for his high-90s fastball and an excellent sinker that induced a high percentage of ground balls. During his career he made 100 starts and collected 30 wins and over 500 strikeouts for ten MLB teams including Washington, Texas, Atlanta, Cleveland, Oakland, Seattle, Chicago (AL), Miami, San Diego and Cincinnati. His ability to start and relieve made him a valuable member of any pitching staff. He also pitched for Team USA in the 2013 World Baseball Classic earning a save in the U.S. victory over Italy.
He starred at Wentzville - Holt HS where he was named GAC Player of the Year after his senior season. He also pitched for Wentzville Legion Post 323 before moving on to Missouri State University where he pitched for three seasons and became ace of the staff while earning several Missouri Valley Conference honors.
