Schumacher was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Clinton County Baseball League for 50 years from 1965 to 2015. In 2004, he was an inaugural inductee into the Clinton County Baseball Hall of Fame.

Since 1979, Schumacher has been a top administrator for the Trenton American Legion Baseball program in Trenton, Illinois. He was also a manager and coach. In 1991, he was inducted into the Trenton American Legion Baseball Hall of Fame.

He was the baseball coordinator for the city of Trenton from 1962 to 2019. The main baseball diamond at Trenton City Park was dedicated as Pete Schumacher Field in 2001.

In the 1950s, he attended St. Henry’s Preparatory Seminary in Belleville and Chaminade Catholic High School in St. Louis.

He is a 1970 graduate of Belleville Area College now called Southwestern Illinois College.

From 1970 to 1972, he attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Schumacher has loved baseball since he was six years old, and he is still an avid supporter and dedicated contributor.
